A Validator Node is a key component in blockchain networks that utilize a proof-of-stake (PoS) or similar consensus mechanism. These nodes are responsible for verifying transactions and adding them to the blockchain. Instead of miners solving complex mathematical problems, validator nodes propose and validate new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to “stake” as collateral. The more stake a validator has, the higher the chances of being chosen to create the next block.Validators play a crucial role in maintaining the network’s integrity. They need to operate honestly and efficiently, as any malicious behavior or downtime can result in penalties, including loss of staked tokens. In return for their services, validator nodes receive rewards, often in the form of transaction fees and newly minted coins. This incentive structure encourages validators to act in the best interest of the network, ensuring its security and operation.
