Hybrid PoW/PoS refers to a consensus mechanism that combines two different methods: Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS).In Proof of Work, participants called miners solve complex mathematical problems to validate transactions and create new blocks. This process requires significant computational power and energy use.On the other hand, Proof of Stake allows participants, known as validators, to create new blocks based on the number of coins they hold and are willing to “stake” or lock up as collateral. This method is often considered more energy-efficient than PoW.By using a hybrid approach, networks can benefit from the strengths of both systems. The PoW component adds security against attacks, while the PoS element encourages long-term holding of coins and reduces energy consumption. This combination aims to create a more balanced and sustainable network, providing better security and efficiency, while also potentially addressing some of the criticisms associated with each individual method.
