Billionaire businessman and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has renewed his legal battle against popular Artificial Intelligence firm, OpenAI. This follows after he recently updated an ongoing lawsuit against the firm and some of its top officials.
Musk’s claims border on how OpenAI, its CEO Sam Altman and another co-founder, Greg Brockman, breached the company’s founding contract.
According to Musk, the defendants could not care less about public good. Hence the reason they made moves that only served their commercial interests. In his new filing, Musk told the federal court that the co-founders deceived him during the formation of OpenAI.
Much of Musk’s arguments border on thay that a particular deal undermines OpenAI’s original mission to promote transparency and accessibility in AI research. Musk was hoping for a platform where breakthroughs in artificial intelligence would be shared openly to benefit the broader public. However, the firm soon started deviating from these principles, according to the American businessman.
Deal Breaker for OpenAI Was Microsoft
Notably, there was a deal that OpenAI struck with Microsoft. As mentioned earlier, Musk did confirm that the initial agreement was that OpenAI would operate using the open-source model.
As it turned out, however, the Microsoft deal might have gone against this founding agreement.
It might be worth mentioning that this new lawsuit is one of many similar ones between Musk and OpenAI. Musk, who was a co-founder at OpenAI has continued to fight tooth and nail with the company since dropping from its board in 2018. Over the past six years, Musk has sued the firm twice. While he previously withdrew a similar lawsuit, his ongoing dissatisfaction with the company’s direction has led to this renewed conflict.
Despite the legal struggles it continues to face, though, OpenAI remains at the forefront of innovation as far as the AI industry is concerned. In July, reports surfaced about the firm’s plans to launch SearchGPT.
Musk Keen on AI
Meanwhile, it appears that Elon Musk remains committed to his dreams and aspirations for the AI sector. He recently floated an AI startup firm, xAI, recording a notable amount of success with the introduction of the Grok chatbot. In April, it was reported that Elon Musk was rallying round to raise as much as $6 billion in funding for xAI.
In a further show of his commitment to the advancement of AI and machine learning, Musk also recently did a public consultation on potential AI investments for Tesla. This goes to show that Elon Musk will stop at nothing as he continues to engage with the future of artificial intelligence.
